The Listening Projects brings simple, scalable listening into schools through The Listening Mat — a portable, tool and training program that embeds structured, device‑free listening into everyday school life. We train staff and student leaders to run short, repeatable sessions guided by clear rules (No Hijacking, No Fixing, Just Listen) so pupils practice deep listening, build peer support and strengthen wellbeing. Rooted in evidence on social cohesion and active listening, our approach reduces loneliness, improves engagement and fosters inclusive micro‑communities where diverse voices are heard and understood. Designed to sit inside existing pastoral frameworks, the model is low‑cost, student‑led and sustainable, growing leadership capacity while lightening staff load. We help schools make listening a core life skill: Be Heard. Be Understood. Belong for life.

What we do?

We build communities in schools.

The Listening Mat in schools builds community, resilience and social cohesion by creating simple, device‑free spaces for students to listen and be heard. Responding to rising youth loneliness and fragmented peer groups, we partner with school leaders to place mats in pastoral spaces home groups and wellbeing hubs, train staff and student leaders, and run short repeatable sessions guided by No Hijacking, No Fixing, Just Listen. Regular, repeatable Mat use strengthens peer networks, reduces isolation, teaches listening as a life skill, and fosters inclusive micro‑communities across year levels. Low‑cost and scalable, the model grows leadership capacity while bolstering school and community resilience.
