Listening - People and Places

"Home is not a place, it's a feeling." Cecelia Ahern

The way we shape the places we live really depends on the people in those places. Wherever we are, it’s the people who make it special. So, how do we connect people to their communities and to each other?

It’s all about building that sense of belonging—sharing stories, traditions, and experiences. Getting involved with local history, nature, and community listening helps create emotional bonds and pride. When people talk and are fully heard, it deepens those connections, making places feel more like home. The Listening Projects does exactly that—bringing people together through just listening and caring. Connections come from sharing, The Listening Projects specialises in listening, creating understanding and belonging.

Who are you?

Possibly you are a local council looking to bring people together. Things generally are becoming disconnected in communities and there is a need to bring back face to face connection, The Listening Projects does this through the seemingly simple act of listening. We get people together to listen to their stories, not stories of how the council have not taken their rubbish away, or about the potholes. We listen to life changing stories that can create connections. Stories that provoke “You too” comments. Stories that help people realise that they are not alone. Hearing a story that mirrors your own can be incredibly powerful, reminding you that you're not alone in your experiences. It creates a sense of connection and understanding, offering comfort and hope through shared struggles and triumphs. This can be the start of building connections and communities, building neighbourhoods. Neighbourhoods are built on micro levels to start with, personal interactions. The Listening Projects acts as the catalyst to connection.
